Trolling for Reviews: The New Thing?

So this marks the fourth person who has e-mailed me directly asking for a book review because they’d seen one of mine on Amazon or Goodreads.

I don’t mind.  Not at all.  But is this a new “thing” for indie types?

I’ve got really mixed feelings about it, and I’m not entirely sure why.  It seems a little… needy, but at the same time, free books!  And all the folks who have asked so far have been clear about “You reviewed a book like X, and my book is similar enough that I think you might like it…”, which is good.

Has this happened to anyone else yet?  What do you think?

  1. One of the problems is that book bloggers who actively seek and review indie books have incredible wait lists or are into reviewing books that I don't write. Those who don't fall under those categories may not have the level of audience that will be attractive to authors who want more notice. The latter doesn't bother me too much. As long as they put reviews on GR and Amazon we're good.

That leaves indies looking everywhere they can for reviews. It even leads to paying for them.

So I've got this book. Would you be interested in reviewing it? 😉

  2. It doesn't actually *bother* me; I've run into the same problem. It's more like the increasing frequency of the requests. 🙂

And btw, yeah, send it over. 🙂
